The Truth About the Trajectory of the Sun

June 7, 2020

Welcome & Announcements

Thank you for worshipping remotely with us.  This resource is meant to help the Melrose Chapel family share in worship even though we can't be together in person.  May you be blessed today and always.

Call to Worship

Our world is overwhelmed with suffering and despair.

Loving God, focus our minds and hearts on Your Spirit of Compassion.

Our world is filled with violence and hatred:

Loving God, focus our hearts and minds on Your Spirit of Peace!

Our world is one of rife with greed and exploitation:

Loving God, focus our hearts and minds on Your Spirit of Justice!

Lord, as we gather together this day, we proclaim Your power and love as the center of our being.

And in worship and praise, we embrace Your vision of peace, for us and for all Creation!

Opening Prayer

God of Justice, You saw the Pharaoh mistreating the Israelites, and You responded by calling Your servant Moses to lead them out of bondage.  Later, You sent prophets like Jeremiah, Amos, and Isaiah to stand up for Your children who had been pushed to the margins of society.  Finally, Your son Jesus proclaimed He had come to bring freedom to captives and liberty to the oppressed.  Be with us in this hour of worship as we embrace our mission to carry on in the struggle against the injustices that burden Your people. Amen!

Friendship Time

Be sure to join us on Zoom at 9:00 am on June 7 as we gather for a time of greeting, friendship, prayer, and reflection.  Find the link to join at the bottom of this online worship page.  Did you miss that time?  Not to worry!  A recording will be made and placed on this page as well.

Joys & Concerns

What's on your heart today? Do you have worries or concerns?  Do you find things to be thankful for? Whatever is in your heart, God wants to hear it.  Take this time to prayerfully reflect on your needs and those things for which you are thankful.  When you've shared this in prayer and allowed God to sit with you a bit in this time, close your time of prayer with the Lord's Prayer or other words that are upon your heart:

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen.

If you have a prayer need that you would like to share, please consider submitting a prayer request here.  Please ensure that you have appropriate permission to submit the need.  If you need to speak with the pastor concerning this request, please indicate that in your request.

Tithes & Offering

Until we return to in-person worship, please consider mailing in your tithes and offerings.  Let us share our gratitude for the grace we have received by giving freely to a world in need of joy, hope, and peace.

Offering Prayer

O God, we recognize that we have been blessed with great abundance. In offering these gifts, may we be strengthened to proclaim your faithfulness this day and always.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
