But We've Never Done It That Way Before!

June 28, 2020

Welcome & Announcements

Thank you for worshipping remotely with us.  As we've now entered a time of in-person worship, we will be recording the live service and posting it hear.  Our hope is that such postings can take place no later than 2:00 pm each Sunday.

Call to Worship
It is good to be together, God, with these people, together listening for your voice, united by your Spirit.
In this time of worship tell us about your kingdom of kindness so that we can seek it. Show us your justice. We want to walk with you, humbly, closely, daily.
We come this day, seeking your voice, your hope, and your vision for the church.
Give us eyes to see, ears to hear, as we worship you in love and in deed.

Opening Prayer

O God, you are our light and our salvation. Living in your presence, we have nothing to fear. Open our hearts to your word this day. Make us ready to follow Jesus on whatever path he leads us. Cast aside our fears and doubts, and teach us to trust wholly in you. For we ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Friendship Time (now called Chapel Chat)

Be sure to join us on Zoom by phone or by video each Wednesday at 1:00 pm.  This is a time of conversation, simply that we might be in connection with one another.  Chapel Chat will be free-form; that is, there will not be a devotional or time of prayer during that time.  Rather, it's an opportunity to spend time with another that is not ordinarly possible during at-home or in-person worship (where social distance is to be maintained).

The link for this online gathering is:

Those joining by landline phone (toll charges apply) should dial 312-626-6799.

For both, the meeting ID is:   858 1808 3026
A passcode will be required.  That can be found on e-connection or by calling/emailing the church office.

Joys & Concerns

What's on your heart today? Do you have worries or concerns?  Do you find things to be thankful for? Whatever is in your heart, God wants to hear it.  Take this time to prayerfully reflect on your needs and those things for which you are thankful.  When you've shared this in prayer and allowed God to sit with you a bit in this time, close your time of prayer with the Lord's Prayer or other words that are upon your heart:

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen.

If you have a prayer need that you would like to share, please consider submitting a prayer request here.  Please ensure that you have appropriate permission to submit the need.  If you need to speak with the pastor concerning this request, please indicate that in your request.

Tithes & Offering

For those worshiping remotely, please consider mailing in your tithes and offerings.  Let us share our gratitude for the grace we have received by giving freely to a world in need of joy, hope, and peace.

Offering Prayer

O God, we recognize that we have been blessed with great abundance. In offering these gifts, may we be strengthened to proclaim your faithfulness this day and always.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Jesus has called us to leave our comfortable ways and venture forward with him.
Lord Jesus, we are so often afraid, it is easier for us to remain bound to our habits.
Jesus knows your fears and offers you healing.
Lord Jesus, Open our hearts and teach us your ways.

Let us go forth now and live as Jesus taught us – to live in faith and not fear, to live in hope and not despair, to live in love and not hate, to live in purpose and not squander the breath that has been given unto us. We do this not in our own strength but in the love, hope, redemption, and purpose given unto us by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

And all God’s people said:  AMEN!
