Won't You Be My Neighbor?  Being Neighborly

August 2, 2020

Welcome & Announcements

Thank you for worshipping remotely with us.  As we've now entered a time of in-person worship, we will be recording the live service and posting it here.  Our hope is that such postings can take place no later than 2:00 pm each Sunday.

Call to Worship

Jesus called us to proclaim the good news of God’s redeeming love.

We come to worship as a people who have heard and responded to God’s call in Jesus Christ.

Jesus has called us to heal the nations and bring hope to all we meet.

We come from all races and cultures to be Christ’s disciples.

Jesus called us to demonstrate compassion and commitment.

We come as disciples to worship and gain strength for our journey. Let us worship God together.

Opening Prayer

Most gracious God, we humbly enter your presence this morning. In our brokenness, we may feel unworthy to be called your children, yet we rejoice knowing that you have chosen us to be your own. We feel the warmth of your embrace as you gather us. Though once separated from you through sin, you have reconciled us into a family through your forgiveness and mercy. Help us to be a reflection of your acceptance and grace. In the name of Christ, our Savior, we pray. Amen.

Friendship Time (now called Chapel Chat)

Be sure to join us on Zoom by phone or by video each Wednesday at 6:30 pm.  This is a time of conversation, simply that we might be in connection with one another.  Chapel Chat will be free-form; that is, there will not be a devotional or time of prayer during that time.  Rather, it's an opportunity to spend time with another that is not ordinarily possible during at-home or in-person worship (where social distance is to be maintained).

The link for this online gathering is:https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87826752751?pwd=OFpBdjZkL0RLc2dKb1JIUjRFK1Z3UT09

Those joining by landline phone (toll charges apply) should dial 312-626-6799.

For both, the meeting ID is:   878 2675 2751
A passcode will be required.  That can be found on e-connection or by calling/emailing the church office.

Joys & Concerns

If you have a prayer need that you would like to share, please consider submitting a prayer request here.  Please ensure that you have appropriate permission to submit the need.  If you need to speak with the pastor concerning this request, please indicate that in your request.

Tithes & Offering

For those worshiping remotely, please consider mailing in your tithes and offerings.  Let us share our gratitude for the grace we have received by giving freely to a world in need of joy, hope, and peace.

Offering Prayer

O God, we recognize that we have been blessed with great abundance. In offering these gifts, may we be strengthened to proclaim your faithfulness this day and always.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

May we find the spiritual strength to help those who are struggling through this day. Whether a neighbor, relative, stranger or friend, where we see a need, rather than walk away may we stop awhile and share a hand, a listening ear, a smile, a prayer, compassion, love, just as Jesus would do.  We do this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
