Won't You Be My Neighbor?  Lost & Found

July 19, 2020

Welcome & Announcements

Thank you for worshipping remotely with us.  As we've now entered a time of in-person worship, we will be recording the live service and posting it here.  Our hope is that such postings can take place no later than 2:00 pm each Sunday.

Call to Worship

When the lost are found, there is joy!

When hope overcomes despair, there is joy!

When we seek and find God’s faithfulness, there is joy!

Praise to God who is present to us through Christ Jesus.

Let us worship God in spirit and truth!

Opening Prayer

God of abundant grace,
may your Holy Spirit be with us now
as we worship you this day.
Open our eyes to truly see one another,
that we might discover your presence
in the smile of a neighbor.
Open our ears to the needs of the world,
that we might hear your wisdom
in the words spoken around us.
And open our hearts to your grace and love,
that we might find guidance
and strength for the journey,
for ourselves and for one another. Amen.

Friendship Time (now called Chapel Chat)

Be sure to join us on Zoom by phone or by video each Wednesday at 1:00 pm.  This is a time of conversation, simply that we might be in connection with one another.  Chapel Chat will be free-form; that is, there will not be a devotional or time of prayer during that time.  Rather, it's an opportunity to spend time with another that is not ordinarily possible during at-home or in-person worship (where social distance is to be maintained).

The link for this online gathering is:

Those joining by landline phone (toll charges apply) should dial 312-626-6799.

For both, the meeting ID is:   858 1808 3026
A passcode will be required.  That can be found on e-connection or by calling/emailing the church office.

Joys & Concerns

What's on your heart today? Do you have worries or concerns?  Do you find things to be thankful for? Whatever is in your heart, God wants to hear it.  Take this time to prayerfully reflect on your needs and those things for which you are thankful.  When you've shared this in prayer and allowed God to sit with you a bit in this time, close your time of prayer with the Lord's Prayer or other words that are upon your heart:

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen.

If you have a prayer need that you would like to share, please consider submitting a prayer request here.  Please ensure that you have appropriate permission to submit the need.  If you need to speak with the pastor concerning this request, please indicate that in your request.

Tithes & Offering

For those worshiping remotely, please consider mailing in your tithes and offerings.  Let us share our gratitude for the grace we have received by giving freely to a world in need of joy, hope, and peace.

Offering Prayer

O God, we recognize that we have been blessed with great abundance. In offering these gifts, may we be strengthened to proclaim your faithfulness this day and always.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

May the extravagant love of God, the Father
fill our hearts and minds, and his embrace hold us
when we feel unworthy to be called his children.

May the friendship of Jesus, our companion
rid us of any notion that we are nothing
and may we find our home with him in his Kingdom.

May the Spirit of life release us from a world of duty
so that a new joy wells up in our lives.

Let us go and reconfigure the world
in our friendships,
in our workplaces,
in our families,
in our streets,
and in our world.

Go proclaim the story of our Christ,
serving in the name of the Father,
of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
