Jesus on the Job: Teacher
August 23, 2020
Thank you for worshipping remotely with us. We hope this time will be a blessing to you as we gather to lift our hearts to God in prayer and praise.
We have returned to online worship only in accordance with the recommendations of the Adams County Health Department. Please consult this document for more details.
Thanks to those of you who have submitted your Ministry Menu. We would love to have more submissions so please send those forms in (a copy was included in the August/September issue of the Connecting Link or you can download a copy here. You can mail them in or drop them off at the church office.
Volunteers are still needed for our Sunday evening meals at Horizons. Please contact Linda Wensing at 217-257-9899 or the church office (217-224-1302) if you can help serve the community in this way.
Please consider becoming part of our Tech Team. From graphic design to website management to social media and more, there's a place for you! Training will be provided. We are also looking for hosts for Chapel Chat each Wednesday evening. There are no other responsibilities other than signing into the Zoom meeting and pressing Start. It's that easy!
We are mailing out printed copies of the sermon to those without computer access. If you know of others that might need this option, please let us know. We continue to examine additional options on how to share the proclaimed Word each week and will keep you posted.
The Annual Conference of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference (of which Melrose Chapel is a part) was held on Saturday, August 15. Harold Turner, Emily Wilson, and Nancy Wilson participated in this virtual event. You can find a summary document online. This meeting represented Emily's final session as a Youth Delegate at Annual Conference, something she's participated in since the age of 12. If you are interested in learning what it means to serve as a delegate (at-large or in another capacity), please be in touch with Harold or Pastor Nancy.
Call to Worship
May your love and mercy be upon us today, O Lord.
Cleanse and refresh us from every transgression.
Let your joy and gladness dawn in our spirits.
May the recreating power of your Spirit make us new.
Have mercy upon us O God,
And let your Spirit lead us in truth and righteousness.
O God, who is to us like a loving, faithful parent, we open ourselves this day to your care. May your refreshment, your renewal, your forgiveness, your strength, your hope surround those who are gathered in Jesus' name. Amen.
Joys & Concerns
If you have a prayer need that you would like to share, please consider submitting a prayer request here. Please ensure that you have appropriate permission to submit the need. If you need to speak with the pastor concerning this request, please indicate that in your request.
Tithes & Offering
For those worshiping remotely, please consider mailing in your tithes and offerings. Let us share our gratitude for the grace we have received by giving freely to a world in need of joy, hope, and peace.
O God, we recognize that we have been blessed with great abundance. In offering these gifts, may we be strengthened to proclaim your faithfulness this day and always. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
August 23, 2020 @ 9:00 am
May we find the spiritual strength to help those who are struggling through this day. Whether a neighbor, relative, stranger or friend, where we see a need, rather than walk away may we stop awhile and share a hand, a listening ear, a smile, a prayer, compassion, love, just as Jesus would do. We do this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Be sure to join us on Zoom by phone or by video each Wednesday at 6:30 pm. This is a time of conversation, simply that we might be in connection with one another. Chapel Chat will be free-form; that is, there will not be a devotional or time of prayer during that time.
